journal of travels from sleepy San Marcos, TX. to sunny California.

Back in San Marcos...good ol' Texas. It's funny things don't tend to change too much around here. It pretty much has been really short conversations about what's been going on since I left, a few outings (Dale Watson and bowling), and a lot of invitations to the bar. All in all it's not so bad. I have spent a good amount of time watching tv. I guess it's because I don't own it myself. Tomorrow I'll ring in the New Year at the Triple Crown watching the Spiders...it's been a while. Then I'm on a plane in the morning back to Oakland. I am actually a little more excited to get back then I thought. I have ideas for a few new songs, and hope I can get Golden Gram and Evan to find time before they go tour with Rogue Wave to sit in on the recordings. I have been sending my stuff around Texas, and everybody likes it. It probably means I need to get of my ass, and go legit...had to happen some day. In the past few days I have seen an ex-girlfriend whose new American Indian boyfriend had three fresh razor cuts on his left cheek. Apparently he did it to release demons or something. Then I left Austin, and ended up at the old art warehouse which had two live roosters running around it. Good to know things are normal back at home.

So it has been quite a while since I wrote anything. I have played a bunch of shows since then, and been recording alot. Tomorrow Graham and I sit down to sift through the recordings, clean them up, then get them mastered, and get the songs to a point where they are ready to be pressed. It sounds great, but I am writing songs at least once a week...sometimes twice a day, so I have to focus on getting this out before I want to put something else on it. (I love my run-on sentences.) I also signed my first autograph at the Ivy Room for some women who decided I was going to be famous. She said it was like if she saw Garth Brooks before he was famous and didn't get his autograph she would have kicked herself. So apparently I am going to be famous. I also bought a car for a dollar. No I'm not kidding. This lesbian couple I did a move for really liked me, and sold me their car for a dollar. It runs great, and all I had to do was put some brake pads on it. My friend Lisa Chew came in town for a few days during Thanksgiving. It was nice to see an old friend, but I worked most of it. The warehouse is good, although it is getting cold in Cali right now. We have some good shows coming up in 2005...shit time flies. To all in San Marcos I will be in from Dec 24-Jan 01, so hunt me down.

Upcoming Shows

Sat Dec 11th @ Golden Bull 13th @ Broadway (Oakland, California)

I have said thus before and thusly will say it again whilst I embark on my trials an traverses of life in Oakland. Leave a fuckin' comment other than crying about how I don't keep up the journal enough and shit. See there are oh so many sides of my communication skills. So recently I have played a show for the East Bay Rats, gone camping on Angel Island and China Camp. Hung out with Doug for a week. (He left today) Recorded some live stuff at Buzz Gallery (all those who would like a copy should call, write, e-mail, comment, or fly here and get one. I recommend the later. I also saw an amazing show at the Yerba Buena Arts Center complete with a full bowl to ride your skateboard on in the gallery. I am planning my self installation project for Paris in April. (not Paris Texas) Me and Liam are planning to tour up to Seattle and back in the fall. My second album is being pushed back to accomodate putting more artists on it. Just having piano and organ so far is amazing. I am also putting together my first official curatorial endeavor with my frined Nicole to trade artists from Oakland to Austin. Buzz Gallery and Ego Park trading artists to Camp Fig (crazy right) It should be super rad, so when your friends and the media ask whats up with the show you should tell them it's going to be super radical. There is more, but I don't like staring at computer screens...love you guys...take care..

So I just got back from Burning Man. It was completely insane, rejuvinating, exhausting, necessary, and stimulating. I met people I would have never otherwise met from places like Vancouver, Amsterdam, Ireland, Australia, etc... I went roller-skating in the desert, jumped on a trampoline, rode on an adult size rocking-horse, saw someone driving a Tron car. OK I really don't have enough time too explain it all, but it was amazing. I also played a show last night with Pat Macdonald of Timbuk3 ("The Future is so Bright I Gotta Wear Shades") Remember that shit! He wasn't so awesome. Actually me and my friend Liam had a big turn out, and then when Pat came on most people left. Please don't ever let me get to that point in my music career...if so shoot me. Our show was the recommended event for the night in the East Bay Express. In other news Bananna moved into Lobot Gallery safe and sound. We had our first opening nearly two weeks ago and over 1,000 people showed up! It was out of control. Hope all is well in your worlds...Oh yeah...I'll get you some money soon...thanks mom for paying the parking tickets.

So who ever is clowning about me not writing enough in my blog, and wants to know what I've been up to could most likely could call me at 512.787.0758, or they could write me (god forbid write me) @ 1800 Campbell St. Oakland, California 94607...shit the same demanding individual could e-mail me at pedestrian99@hotmail.com. I guess right now they can just read the new entry. Well folks where to begin. I my debut solo show country show at Ego Park Gallery on August 14th, then I have an art show on August 23rd at Lo-Bot Gallery (ie:the gallery I live at), I just got invited to be in a show at Camp Fig in Austin in September?, my friend Prozack is helping me produce my first rap song, a bar called the Golden Bull is wanting to hire me, me and my friend Armstead are getting more jobs than we can take on all at once woth our new company called Solid Construction and Design, and I am recording my second album called Brutal Truth next week...whew..that is more than I even new that I was doing. Oh yeah I also put out a t-shirt design that is selling like crazy. It just says "Oakland's got hella hotties." People love it. A friend of mine named Pat is wearing one when his band Rogue Wave plays some new talk show out of New York (cool huh?) My new album should have bass, drums, mandolin, banjo, me and my guitar, and female and male vocal harmonizing. Also me and my friend Liam Carey are putting out a split single. I went camping and swimming in Mendicino a while back (where Return of the Jedi was filmed) It was amazing. I ate fresh blackberries while crusing through the Redwoods. Everything here is awesome. The only downer so far is having two people go from being my close friends to falling in love with me. I guess that's not so bad, but it makes things wierd since my heart really doesn't feel like seeing anyone right now. Some of you may get mail from my new project called "letters from people you don't know" you will recieve one or more letters from peops you've never met, and are expected to respond. I am not really documenting it yet, but I will start. I have many other projects happening right now, but they will remain a secret until they are done. My new motto is "Consider it yours until you find out otherwise." cio kiddos...congradulations Cindy Lou
